I attended the Sewing and Quilt Expo in Kansas City over the past 3 days and shopping of course is a major part of any quilt show. My normal pattern is to leisurely browse through the booths one time through, making note of items of interest. The Project Lydia booth was the first one I came to and was immediately impressed by the crafts and fabrics that were displayed. This is their statement from their website, “Project Lydia is an economic development project that lifts women out of the worst of poverty, restores purpose, hope, and dignity.” I wished I had taken a picture of the booth to showcase the beautiful, bags, fabrics and baskets. I visited the booth 3 times and bought items each time.
The batik fabrics were hand-dyed and the ones with distinct patterns were stamped by wood carved blocks by the women. The necklaces I purchased for gifts for friends. This booth was the highlight of my shopping.
