Selvage Edge Coasters

Selvage Edge Coasters

This idea has been floating around in my head since I cut off the selvage edges for my black red and white quilt. One morning when a headache drove me out of bed, I decided that I put my sleepless time to good use.

I throw very little fabric away. I learned to save the tiny bits and scraps for pet beds from Pam’s podcast over at Hip to Be Square.

I varied the pattern on each one. This isn’t the first thing I have made using selvage edges but I do think they are the best.

I love how these turned out and they were quick and easy to put together. I plan to make more so a tutorial will follow.

Do you save your selvage edges?

Enjoy the Journey, Jackie

Beautiful! and nope, I dont save them. I don’t save a lot. I love looking at what other people do with their leftovers, but I find it it makes me jumpy to have it all over the place. I either give it to other quilters or just let it go. 🙂

I’ve created systems to keep my scraps and selvage edges. The key is staying on top of them, which I don’t do a very good job of doing.

Those came out great, Jackie! I don’t save mine but perhaps I should. I find that keeping little bits makes me a bit crazy and that is probably because I never get around to using them and they pile up.

There will come a point when I will have to do some purging I am sure. I made a grocery tote with some for my daughter and that used a lot of them, I think I need to make some more.

These are really nice, Jackie. Sometimes I use selvages to wrap a gift for a quilting friend. Otherwise, no, I don’t save selvages. But I will now. When you do your tutorial, I’ll make some of these.

Thanks Diane, using the strips for wrapping a gift is a cute idea, I will have to remember that.

Love the fluffy raw edges on the corner too! Maybe getting up for a headache wasn’t so bad after all!!

    • Jackie

I didn’t enjoy the headache, but you are right the results of getting up were worth it.

These turned out great!! I haven’t been saving mine, but may want to begin.

    • Jackie

Thank you Daphne, I collect mine in a large glass jar. Pretty to look at while I collect.
