An Ugly Quilt? Finish

Disclaimer: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Ugly Quilt 2

I have titled this my “Ugly Quilt” because I used a fat quarter from an “ugly fabric” exchange. I did pull out my more subdued fabrics in my stash for this quilt which I was very happy to use. I experimented with black as the contrast vs. white. I was also experimenting with pattern. I’m not sure I would use white as the background in a do over, though I would change the pattern.

Quilt Stats:

  • 57” x 73”
  • Quilt blocks used: Old Maid’s Puzzle and Hour Glass
  • Winline 100% cotton batting
  • Pieced with Aurifil 50wt cotton neutral thread
  • Quilted with WonderFil Invisafil Winter Sky Grey #718
  • All free motion quilted including the diagonal and in the ditch lines

I am not sure where I got the thread but I wanted something that would blend into all the colors. It does show on the black fabric some, but I was hoping by doing so it would tone down the black fabric. Ugly Quilt Close up

Here is another view turned diagonally and I really like this look.

Reactions to this quilt have varied from, “I love this!” to no comments and “interesting” and “I don’t like the colors.”

What is your reaction? Don’t worry my feelings won’t be hurt. It was a way to test patterns and ideas and free motion quilting with fabric I didn’t love. A win win for me.

A finish on the Journey, Jackie

P.S. Ugly quilt 2 (I had leftover fabrics cut and pieced) is on my long arm, waiting for me. Ugly Quilt 2 on Long arm

For an “ugly” quilt, it’s a great scrap quilt!!
