Decisions, Decisions

I am making quilts for the men in my life for next year and I have a pattern I have drafted for these fabrics that I plan to use and I need help deciding what solid to use for the sashing (narrow, will finish at 1.5 inches).

In each photo the top picture is the auto setting and the second photo is monochromatic. The solid in each sample matches a color in the focus fabrics, though it is hard to see in the pictures.

Medium gray. It really seems to disappear in the second photo, which surprised me.

1-2014-05-04Off-white is the solid in this picture. It really appears to be too stark I think.
2-2014-05-005 This next one is a cream-colored solid. It shows up lighter in the picture. 3-2014-05-006 This last one is black, the monochromatic photo surprised me.

Realizing it is a quilt for a man, I’m not interested in too much contrast but I do want it to have some interest.

Your turn to weigh in. Medium gray, off white, cream or black? Why? I wondered if I should look at light gray fabrics as well.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Waiting for you on the Journey, Jackie

Medium gray is my first choice and cream is my second. 🙂

I like the black first and the medium gray second. Cream would be third choice for me.

Thanks Gretchen, black is my first choice as well. It really shows the contrast.

I like the medium gray the best. It doesn’t give too much contrast but still makes the other fabric stand out.

Thanks for stopping by Jackie. I’m thinking I will go with the medium gray since Kristen is liking that color and it is for Carlos.

I was digging the cream but the grayscale photo does make it look starker than it might otherwise. It would be interesting to look for a gray in a different value, or even a darker cream/sand color. I love the fabric combo, though–great stuff!

      Thanks Sandy,

You wouldn’t think it would be so hard to decide on the fabrics, would you. I’ve debated the lighter gray option but as usual I’m trying to use the fabrics I have in my stash. I also agree about the darker cream as well. Not that having more gray (or cream) on hand isn’t a bad idea. DD likes the gray or cream and it is for her hubby……
