Is This a Bird’s Nest?

Camden wanted to make a card for his other grandfather but insisted that he sew it. I assured him we could and would, though he had a hard time picturing how he could sew a card.

He choose blue and red fabrics and I thought he was old enough (9) to learn to use the rotary cutter and ruler. He was very careful and did an amazing job with accuracy. 07-DSCN6535I had him sew all the strips together, then use batting as the backing as he sewed decorative stitches along the seam lines.

14-DSCN6582At one point he got “stuck” and the machine wouldn’t move. I had to explain what a bird’s nest was. The next time he got stuck he showed me his handy work and asked if it was a bird’s nest and it most certainly was.15-DSCN6584Cutting the heart from the center of the card.

What a special thought and gift you made to be cherished Camden.

Proud of you.

Love Grandma.
