Yellow Brick Road Update

I started this quilt months ago, and even started quilting it. I loved the quilting not the color. Yellow Brick Road

So I spent months of TV time (really don’t watch much TV but still…) ripping out stitches.Yellow Brick Road

I’ve ordered new threads (Aurifil), in lighter colors. It is now on my new long arm instead of my domestic machine.
DSCN4969_wmI decided to put different designs in each square/rectangle in the blocks. It will take a while, but I am planning on practicing many different designs so by the time the quilt is done, I will have had plenty of practice.

Sample of my original thoughts below. Final designs vary somewhat. DSCN4971_wmI’ll free motion quilt this along with using rulers. I expect it will take quite a bit of time since it is so detailed. I’m good with that.

Enjoy the Journey, Jackie

I remember this quilt! Love the new colors 🙂 I’m sure it will be beautiful and well worth the time in the end. TGIF!

Thanks Lori, ripping out the stitches was a bear since there was a lot of overlap. I was tempted to chop the quilt off at times.

Yup, I agree, those colors had to go! I am excited to see your ‘quilting sampler’ when it is done!

Thanks Allison. I think those purple paisley’s will be forever etched in my brain.

Thanks for stopping by Val. I have ripped out others but none as bad as this. I was so ready to be done. Always glad to have new followers. I checked out your blog, it looks like you have quite the stash. I like the wire baskets that appear to be hung on the wall.

  • Linda Wulf Koenig

I’m sorry your original colors didn’t work out for you, but gosh, your free-motion stitching is wonderful!!

    • Jackie

Thank you Linda, I was pleased with the stitching, hated to rip it out. I think that is why I kept at it so long before deciding enough was enough.

Purple and yellow are one my favorite color combinations. I really like the quilt and your plan for quilting it sounds great.
