Polyester Tribute

Polyester Tribute ResizedThis quilt is yes, made with polyester fabric. Don’t ask me what I was thinking, I didn’t know any better. My mom was specific on the colors she wanted for her bed quilt and I happened to find them in the polyester fabric, so it worked. Personally I think it is ugly, though it hangs on my quilt rack today. It was made by me, my mother loved it and that is all that matters.

When I first started quilting, not only didn’t the tools exist, such as rotary cutters and mats, neither did the array of fabrics. My patterns came from pictures in magazines and if book or other  help was available I did not find it. So I gleaned what I could from the few resources I had.

I do not like appliqué  today. I am not sure if it stems from making my first quilt here, this one or the ones that came afterwards. I am not sure why I did so many, could be they were popular at the time.

This is queen size, machine pieced and hand appliqued and quilted.

Linking up with Jenny at “Quiltin Jenny” for Throwback Thursday.

Do you have any “what was I thinking” projects in your past?

Enjoy the Journey, Jackie

Oh, this is awesome. It may not be our favorite chapter in quilting history, but it’s definitely an important one. Thanks for the reminder – I actually repaired a quilt very much like this one. I’ll have to pull it out for a future #TBT!

I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🙂 One thing for sure, it will be around long after I am.

That’s so cool! I love history, even if it is peppered. 🙂
