Quilt It Challenge – August

Go over and comment on the 2nd Blog Anniversary post for a chance to win a pattern and fabric to make a cute baby quilt. Perfect as a gift or donation quilt.

This challenge started this year and for the month of July – September features the “Reverse Capital T”  block.

Last months block was quilted and showcased here.

Here is this months block:

I started with quilting the center by placing a quilted “square in a square” block for my motif. I found the center of the square to stitch out the circle and then did the outside ovals coming off the center. It needed more so I placed a smaller set of ovals inside the larger ones. To help the center stand out, I filled in the outside section of the center with the straight lines.

I continued with the same pattern as I moved out into the triangle areas. It is hard to see the patterning on the blue fabric since I used the same color of thread. Interestingly enough the center motif recedes in this block. I think if I had stitched a second line for my square in a square it may have shown more.

By working within the small spaces of the block elements I was able to quilt with no marking or registration marks.

One more month and then it is time for the whole cloth quilting to begin! I can’t wait, but I have to settle on a design first.

Enjoy the Journey, Jackie

Very nice…..What kind of machine are you using or is it handwork?…..I am wanting to attempt both machine quilting on my domestic machine had hand quilting…..sending out to the longarm is getting expensive. I need to explore other options.
