Flower Power Baby Mat/Quilt

P1150110 (1024x1017)_wmI attended an Accuquilt Go class, using their winding ways template to make this quilt.

I was able to finish piecing the top in class, details including my mistakes and challenges here. Then life crowded in, namely Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and it was put on my New’s Year list to finish. This is finish #3 for the year.

The back:

While it may sound impressive, the quilts I have finished so far are small. I have two much larger quilts still in the works. This quilt finishes at 32 x 32 and it will be a gift for a co-worker.

The blocks were perfect for free motion quilting without marking.

I did FMQ on the border. My flowers are usually much smaller but the border is 4 1/2 inches wide so I got to practice making larger flowers.
P1150119 (1024x768)_wmNot only was I able to use several yards of fabric from my stash, I also have a gift already for a new baby.

How are you doing on your quilting goals for the New Year?

Enjoy the Journey, Jackie

Very nice! And congrats on the finish! I also noticed that maybe it looks like you did a machine binding with decorative stitch. I can never get my binding to line up right when I try to do it all by machine and end up with extra seams showing. Can you blog your tips for successful machine binding? I don’t mind hand-sewing binding most of the time, but I’d really like to nail down that technique for doing it all by machine for fast gifts and donation quilts.

I like the circular-ness of the center. The blocks kind of remind me of butterflies 😀

  • Mary Ann

    Very sweet.

I really love that. I have the Accuquilt Baby Go, do you think that die would fit in it? It has a 6″ width on the cutting mat.

I am pretty sure the dies are meant for the larger system.

I have always admired Winding Ways and yours is gorgeous! Great fabrics and quilting!

    • Jackie

      Thank you Deb.

I don’t think I would have ever done this pattern if I hadn’t taken the class.

The quilt is fabulous and your FMQing is remarkable, well done!

Thank you Marianne. I think the quilting was my favorite part of this quilt.
