Grace and Her Baby Quilt

Grace is 2 almost 3 and she started sewing with me over a year ago (stories over here and here). When she is in my sewing room she will go to my sewing machine and ask if she can “do this” while pointing to the machine. This time her brother, Noah, asked first and I wanted to work with him while he was interested, so she had to wait for him.

This kept her busy while waiting…..

until they ended up on the floor and then she was kept busy doing this….

The mess was much worse before this picture and I kept hearing, “I can’t.” My response was, “that’s fine, you won’t sew until they are picked up, the choice is up to you.”  After a bit, she found out that she indeed “could” pick up and clapped and jumped with glee saying, “I did it, I did it.”

About this time Noah was done and Grace got to pick two fabrics for her doll quilt.

Getting started:

She is always so careful with her hands:

She knows where the needle up and down button are, the thread cutter and how to lift the presser foot and when to turn the fabric. Of course she is on my lap and I am pressing the foot pedal but she does quite well with the other steps.

The all important pressing step. This is a first for her, but Noah got to press so she wanted to as well.

Quilting:

Such joy!

What more needs to be said….

Enjoy the journey, Jackie

Grace, what a beautiful name. I’m impressed how careful she is, but you’ve taught her well. So proud of her dolly quilt!
