Hugs & Kisses Quilt

The strip blocks that were part of Rhonda’s 2012 Finish-a-Long started over here that I posted and titled “Scrappy Pinwheels” became this:

As you can see it is not a pinwheel quilt and there is more on that over on the “Scrappy Pinwheel” post. I started with left over strips most in the 1 inch wide range, some a little less, some a little more. I needed to add more fabric to make it a decent size and it finishes as 31 x 31.

I used my Sashiko machine to quilt it:

I started this quilt with no finished idea/plan in mind. I had left over strips that were not very long and I wanted to find a way to use them. From this venture my mind has come up with many other possibilities.

Here is a picture of the back:

I didn’t have enough of any of the other fabrics to cover the back unless it became a pieced back and I didn’t want to do that, so I purchased some more fabric (sad day I know, feel sorry for me :)). I have plans for the leftover backing fabric along with the rest of the 30’s prints dancing in my head.

While there are things I would do differently on this quilt, I like it overall. I am sure there will be other opportunities to use up small strip of scraps again so I will get another shot at this.

Quilt Possibilities:
Baby Play Mat
Sweet Wall Hanging
Large Doll Quilt
Signature Quilt

Enjoy the journey, Jackie

  • You used the Sashiko machine to quilt it?? What a great idea- you get the look of handquilting!

Now I want to find one of those machines!
