National Quilt Day Celebration

I took advantage of a sale a local quilt shop (Prairie Point Quilt Shop) was having in celebration of National Quilt Day.

I had specific things on my lists, though somehow a few fat quarters seemed to jump into my arms and made their way home with me.

In the background in a Creative Grids 16 1/2″ Square It Up & Fussy Cut Ruler. Sandy over at Quilting for the Rest of Us reviewed the Creative Grids ruler some time ago and after using one that I received for Christmas I was hooked. I have replaced a couple of rulers where the lines were no longer legible and added a couple that round out my collection.

The solid collections on the bottom are from a 30’s line to balance and finish up a 30’s string quilt that I have started. Not showing is the backing fabric for my Box of Chocolate’s quilt.

Aurifil thread (another one of Sandy’s recommendation), which I have fallen in love with. I am slowing add it as I need it for a particular project.

Here is the scoop on my fat quarters:

  • The purple and yellow are for a quilt I hope to make some day, no pattern, just collecting at this point
  • The primary ones are for a toddler’s quilt I want to make, idea in my head, not drafted yet
  • Japanese Taupes they are the ones that jumped into my arms, and they are just too lovely not to have

Here is my take on fabric. Flowers are lovely to look at and who doesn’t love to have fresh-cut flowers adorning the table. I do, but I can’t do flowers, so I do fabric. Fabric doesn’t wither and die after a few days. You can take it and make a lasting memory or heirloom for someone someday and in the meantime enjoy the beauty of the colors and patterns they make.

Someday these purchases will get handed down in someone’s family. In the meantime I have the pleasure of enjoying them while having visions of quilt patterns dancing my head.

So what did you do on National Quilt Day?

Enjoy the journey, Jackie
